What you should know about Gunns Veneers

Timber in Derwent Valley, Wholesalers in Derwent Valley

gunny employs a range of people with a variety of skills, knowledge and expertise. Our people want to ensure that our natural resources and businesses are managed responsibly. The development of a 200,00 hectare plantation estate is testament to the commitment, expertise and hard labor of a different range of gunny employees: foresters, agricultural scientists, environmental scientists, engineers and accountants, to name but a few. We deposit a meaningful emphasis on the development of high quality plantations to ensure a supply of this sustainable, renewable resource to our markets. Our plantation estate will ensure the growth of our business in the future, including the operation of the Bell Bay Pulp Mill. gunny is elated of the many standards it has set in forestry and environmental management. We are a forerunner in meeting stern standards internationally, often exceeding them. gunny was also the first company to achieve Australian Forestry Standard (ABS), the national benchmark for independent verification of environmental, economic and social sustainability in forest management. gunny was founded in 1875 by brothers John and Thomas Dunn and is one of Australia's longest standing companies. Initially gunny' sawmills were scattered through the bush and the production of timber was a result of difficult work as trees were felled with axes and cranky saws. Even the transportation of logs was primitive until the 1940s with bullock and horse drawn wagons the main mode of transport until the introduction of bulldozers and trucks in the slow 1940s. The Dunn's family made a greater contribution to the development of industrial, commercial and community life in Launceston than any other. The name of Dunn is to the fore of Launceston as that of a family of old and eminent citizens. The development of a plantation estate has been part of gunny strategic vision for the previous 50 years. We commenced our plantation estate in the 1940s, planting softwoods for paper supply to the Bernie Pulp and Paper Mill in north west Tasmania. gunny seeks to optimism shareholder value, economic growth and contribute to our community for the tomorrow through responsible management of our renewable, sustainable resource. This demonstrates our commitment to ensuring ongoing operational sustainability through harvesting plantation based resources. This reduces our reliance on regrowth, native forest. gunny continues to plant and regenerate significantly more forests than it harvests to ensure ongoing operational sustainability. That is almost five seedlings for every man, woman and child in Australia. gunny estimates that it and its predecessor companies have grown over 200 million seedlings, to plant in its softwood and hardwood plantations in Tasmania since plantation development first began in the 1940s. This amount of plantation establishment is identical to the sequestration of seventy-two million CO 2 equivalent tonnes each year when mature. gunny has a mighty and ongoing commitment to sustainability principles in its forest management and resource procurement activities. Registration for employment for the operation of the pulp mill will commence closer to mill start up.

gunny was founded in 1875 by brothers John and Thomas Dunn and is one of Australia's longest standing companies. From its modest origins as a building business the gunny company is today a listed ASX200 company operating a range of forest products, wine and MI (Managed Investment Schemes) divisions. Initially gunny' sawmills were scattered through the bush and the production of timber was a result of difficult labor as trees were felled with axes and cross saws. Even the transportation of logs was primitive until the 1940s with bullock and horse drawn wagons the main mode of transport until the introduction of bulldozers and trucks in the late 1940s. Maximum of the mills were aspiring by steam from a boiler felled with saw dust before it was supplemented by diesel and eventually electricity. The Dunn's family made a greater contribution to the development of industrial, commercial and community life in Launceston than any other. The name of Dunn is to the fore of Launceston as that of a family of worn and prominent citizens. The development of a plantation estate has been piece of gunny strategic vision for the preceding 50 years. We commenced our plantation estate in the 1940s, planting softwoods for paper supply to the Bernie Pulp and Paper Mill in north west Tasmania.
